May, 10, 2013 7:17 am | Comments On #Baz Lurhmann, F. Scott Fitzgerald, Great Gatsby, Movies

As Baz Luhrmann reads the mixed reviews for his adaptation of F. Scott Fitgerald's "The Great Gatsby," he can take heart in the fact that the novel got its share of pans, too.

To be sure, most reviews were positive when the book was published in 1925. And even some of the harshest critics praised Fitzgerald's writing, despite thier disdain for his plot and often unlikeable characters.

But it seems safe to say, with 88 years years distance, that some critics just didn't get it.

"F. Scott Fitzgerald's latest a dud," said a now-infamous headline in the New York World.

“A little slack, a little soft, more than...

TheWrap reported on Wednesday that all four judges wouldn't be returning for Season 13 of Fox's "American Idol." So, it didn't come as too much of a surprise to us when original judge Randy Jackson announced he's leaving the show on Thursday.

Apparently, the news did take host Ryan Seacrest by surprise.

"Maybe a heads-up?" the host asked...

Stephen Colbert responded with a mix of hurt and anger to the news that Mark Sanford beat his sister, Elizabeth Busch Colbert, in a special election to Congress.

"My sister lost! How could this happen. I was so sure Lulu had won because CNN called it for Sanford," Colbert said on Wednesday's "Colbert Report."

With the victory, the Republican ex-governor reclaimed the seat he held before winning the executive office. Sanford's governorship was marred by news that he left the state to carry on an affair with his former mistress -- now his fiancee -- in Argentina.

"Mark Sanford beat my sister, and I believe that means, Mark Sanford is now my sister,...
