My Most Provocative Hollyblogs

Based on readers’ comments — from Michael Jackson to Burger King

Keeping with the year-end tradition of selecting the "Best Of" or 'Worst Of," I came up with a list representing my contributions to cyber Hollywood this year. But I would be remiss if I first didn’t thank TheWrap for allowing me to join its Hollyblogs section when the publication launched in February of this year.

Giving me a voice beyond my four walls, and equally opinionated readers writing back, is gratifying because we have a platform to discuss our cultural obsession with Hollywood and our differing perspectives of the entertainment industry's influence on our families.

Out of 17 Hollyblogs I submitted to the burgeoning online publication this year, I selected six as “Most Provocative Posts of 2009," based on the varied and visceral reactions from readers according to the discussions – in some cases discourses – in the comments section.

For your consideration:

1. "What Does My Family Do Now, Tiger Woods?": This scandal is still fresh and pending an outcome. Tiger: Come out, come out wherever you are!

2. "Role Model? Shanna Moakler is in Serious Denial": Remember the raucous started by Perez Hilton’s question to Miss California Pageant contestant Carrie Prejean about her thoughts on gay marriage? Neither do I …

3. "Burger King and That Sponge Bob Commercial": In spite of how much I like Sir Mix-A- Lot’s "Big Butts" song, Burger King got its messages all mixed up!

4. "Even The Kids Are Turning Against Miley": The Teen Queen evokes polar opposite opinions, and writing about her brought out the claws, too!

5. "Kate Gosselin: Talk Show Host? Ugh": Yes. A talk show with Kate is coming sooner than you think.

6. "A Good-Bye Filled With Mixed Emotions": Michael Jackson’s death made most of us reflect about how we viewed the unquestionable King of Pop.

If you take the time read these posts, or re-read in some cases, you might be shocked by what people wrote expressing very strong emotions about these topics. One surprising comment is on the Miley Cyrus post I wrote based on a little known poll found on a lesser known website. The defensive tirade sounds like it could have come from Billy Ray Cyrus himself (or his daughter's agent).

The rest of my selections have a good back-and-forth balance which is the purpose of writing provocative pieces. When a post didn’t rock your world enough to get your opinion, then I didn’t do a good enough job of drawing your thoughts on to the page with my stories.

I hope you’ll take a second look and do as I did: find out if you feel the same way about these issues now that some time has gone by…

Happy New Year’s reading, and thanks for sticking with me and TheWrap this year!
