Marking one of the biggest year-to-year spikes in motion-picture history, the average U.S. movie-ticket price rose more than 5 percent last year to $7.89, according to figures released Friday by the National Association of Theater Owners.
The 39-cent average increase beat the 32-cent bump experienced from 2008-09, when prices shot up 4 percent from $7.18 to $7.50 a ticket.
In the fourth quarter of 2010, admissions increased nearly 4 percent to $8.01 a seat.
Of course, premium charges for 3D tickets accounts for the majority of this increase.
