The network offers a first look at its upcoming presentation of the classic Rodgers & Hammerstein musical airing in December
Stephen Moyer gets to break out of the often-somber role he portrays on HBO’s “True Blood” for NBC’s upcoming “Sound of Music Live!.”
During Thursday’s episode of “The Voice,” NBC aired a first look trailer for the three-hour production of the Rodgers & Hammerstein musical airing Thursday, Dec. 5 at 8/7c.
It shows Moyer smiling and dancing with Carrie Underwood, the “American Idol” champ and Grammy-winning country singer who’s playing Maria. Moyer plays the role of Capt. Georg Von Trapp, the widowed father of seven children.
During the course of the musical, Maria, the family’s new governess, breaks down the widower’s militaristic exterior and opens him and his seven children up to the wonders of, yes, music.
The actors set to play the von Trapp children are Ariane Rinehart (Liesl), Michael Nigro (Fredrich), Ella Watts-Gorman (Louisa), Joe West (Kurt), Sophia Caruso (Brigitta), Grace Rundhaug (Marta) and Peyton Ella as young Gretl.
Executive produced by Neil Meron and Craig Zadan (“Smash,” “Steel Magnlolias”), the production co-stars Tony Award winners Audra McDonald (Mother Abbess), Laura Benanti (Elsa Schrader) and Christian Borle (Max Dettweiler).
