Roma Khanna, a top executive for NBC Universal International, is stepping down in the management shakeup that installs Jeff Shell as NBCU International's president.
Shell's appointment was announced last year as Comcast awaited federal approval of its purchase of NBCU. On Tuesday, Kevin MacLellan was named president of international television, reporting to him.
Joining MacLellan in the move from Los Angeles to London is Belinda Menendez, who will take on the realigned role of president of international TV distribution and Universal networks international. Rowan Conn was appointed to the new role of chief financial officer.
Khanna (above), who was president of Universal networks international and digital initiatives, has not announced her future plans. A Canadian citizen of the world, she helped NBCU dramatically expand its number of channels with an impressive knowledge of what works in TV markets all over the world.
That knowledge was on display at a NATPE panel last year (moderated, full disclosure, by the person writing this) where she offered many fascinating factoids about international viewing habits. Among the most intriguing was that that Hallmark Channel-style specials are among the most beloved programming in South Africa.
"Roma is an outstanding executive who has done a remarkable job of building our network business," Shell said. "While I had hoped she would remain part of our leadership team, I wish her much success in her future career."
