NBCUniversal has hired Vasant M. Prabhu as its new Chief Financial Officer. In the post, Prabhu will also sit on the Executive Committee.
As CFO, Prabhu will oversee operations and technical services, which includes NBCUniversal’s technical operations, physical plant, corporate services and information technology functions. He will report to chief executive officer Steve Burke when he begins on June 1.

“Vasant is an extremely accomplished and well respected executive and having him on board is a major win for NBCUniversal,” said Burke in a statement. “Our company is performing very well, but there is still a great deal we want to achieve. Having spent a considerable amount of time with Vasant, I am confident that he will play a vital and highly valuable role for NBCUniversal.”
Prabhu joins NBCU from Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Inc. where he served as CFO and vice chairman. Prabhu was responsible for all financial functions, information technology and a range of central corporate services at Starwood.

An University of Chicago and Indian Institute of Technology alum, Prabhu has also held executive posts at Safeway, Inc., The McGraw-Hill Companies, PepsiCo.
He’s also a member of the Board of Directors of Mattel, Inc.
