Ratings: CBS’s ‘NCIS: New Orleans’ Premieres to 17.1 Million Viewers, NBC’s ‘The Voice’ Has Big Night

NBC topped Tuesday ratings with a strong “Voice” and “Chicago Fire” premiere lineup, though CBS dominated in total viewers, as its “NCIS” franchise netted the two most-watched shows of the night.

NBC was first in ratings with a 3.6 rating/11 share in the advertiser-coveted 18-49 demographic and second in viewers with an average of 11.8 million, according to preliminary numbers. “The Voice” at 8 p.m. earned a night-high 4.0/13 and had 13 million viewers. “Chicago Fire” at 10 opened its second season with a 2.7/8 and 9.4 million viewers.

CBS was second in ratings with a 2.4/7 and first in viewers with 15.3 million. “NCIS” at 8 earned a 2.9/10 and a primetime-best 18 million viewers in its season premiere. At 9, the series debut of “NCIS: New Orleans” scored a 2.5/7 and 17.1 million viewers. “Person of Interest” at 10 received a 1.8/5 and 10.7 million viewers.

ABC was third in ratings with a 1.8/6 and in viewers with 7.2 million. The “Dancing With the Stars” results show at 8 got a 1.6/6 and 9.6 million viewers. “Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD” at 9 returned to a 1.9/6 and 5.6 million viewers. Measuring premiere-to-premiere, SHIELD was way down, dropping 60 percent from its huge series debut, but the show experienced big falls pretty early on in Season 1 and closed its first run with a 2.0 rating. “Forever” at 10 opened its regular timeslot to a 1.7/5 and 6.5 million viewers.

Univision was fourth in ratings with a 1.2/4 and in viewers with 2.9 million.

Fox was fifth in ratings with a 1.0/3 and in total viewers with 2.1 million. “Utopia” at 8 had a 0.8/3 and 1.9 million viewers. “New Girl” at 9 got a 1.3/4 — down 24 percent from last week’s premiere against softer competition — and 2.3 million viewers. “The Mindy Project” at 9:30 received a 1.0/3 — a 23 percent drop from the season opener — and 2.1 million viewers.

Telemundo was sixth in ratings with a 0.6/2 and in total viewers with 1.5 million.

The CW was seventh in ratings with a 0.3/1 and in total viewers with 676,000, airing reruns.
