Neil Patrick Harris used the cover of Rolling Stone to bare his soul (and his skin).

The “How I Met Your Mother” star is the magazine’s new coverboy, stripping down to nothing but a bowtie and a strategically-placed top hat in a photo shoot with Terry Richardson, a photographer who has come under fire for his work on Vogue.

The actor, who is currently playing the title role in the Broadway production of “Hedwig and the Angry Inch,” spoke to Rolling Stone about his transition from child star to song and dance man.

And he opened up about how coming out helped his career.

“Once all the cards were on the table, I got more opportunities than ever,” Harris said. “Some actors don’t get hired because you can’t look into their soul and see what they’re like, because they’re kept guarded.”
