Netflix Names Warner Bros. Exec as Chief Marketing Officer

Kelly Bennett, a nine-year veteran of Warner Bros., will take over Netflix's marketing department

Netflix has hired Warner Bros. executive Kelly Bennett as the video-streaming service's chief marketing officer, the company announced Monday.

Bennett comes seven months after the last permanent marketing chief, Leslie Kilgore, stepped down amid a public relations team shakeup following a highly contested company split and price hike.

Jessie Becker served as interim chief marketing officer while the company conducted an external search for a new CMO.

Bennett spent nine years at the studio, most recently as vice president of interactive and worldwide marketing with the pictures group, where he led the international online campaigns for the most recent installments of "Happy Potter," "Sherlock Holmes" and the just-released "The Dark Knight Rises."

"Kelly has been a pioneer in developing incredible digital campaigns for some of the biggest box office hits in recent history," Netflix CEO Reed Hastings said in a statement. "We are delighted Kelly is bringing creative and marketing expertise to Netflix as our streaming business becomes increasingly global and our focus intensifies on commissioning high-quality original programming for our more than 25 million members."

Before moving up in the ranks at Warner Bros., Bennett headed the online marketing for Warner Bros. Pictures in Europe, the Middle East and Africa and worked in promotion and business development. Prior to that, he held executive positions at Dow Jones International, Ignition Media and was a partner at the London-based Cimex Media.

A Canadian, Bennett graduated from Simon Fraser University.
