Netflix Strikes Deal With the Weinstein Company’s Multi-Platform RADiUS Label

Upcoming TWC-RADiUS titles such as Sundance favorite "Bachelorette" will be available on Netflix in early 2013

Netflix has reached a multi-year deal to host films from RADiUS, the Weinstein Company’s multi-platform distribution label, the companies announced on Thursday.

Starting in early 2013, Netflix members will be able to stream a bevy of upcoming RADiUS titles, including the Sundance hit “Bachelorette”; Nicolas Winding Refn’s “Only God Forgives,” his first film since “Drive”; and “Butter,” which stars Jennifer Garner, Ty Burell and Olivia Wilde.

“We are delighted to be extending our relationship again with TWC, incorporating the cutting edge and crowd-pleasing movies distributed by RADiUS,” Ted Sarandos, Netflix’s chief content officer, said in a statement. “Weinstein movies like this year’s Academy Award winning best picture ‘The Artist’ and the biggest French box office hit ever ‘The Intouchables’ are coming to Netflix in the next few months and we are looking forward to having the RADiUS titles soon after.”

The Weinstein Company and Netflix reached a deal earlier this year giving Netflix the right to stream many of the independent studio’s titles.

Netflix, like all companies in the streaming-video market, must balance its desire to offer as many films as possible with the escalating cost of film libraries. No financial terms of this deal were disclosed, but RADiUS is a logical partner as it was founded earlier this year to search for innovative ways to distribute films across platforms.

“The RADiUS-Netflix partnership is a natural and exciting next step for us, and one that gives us the power to reach a broader audience than ever before,” TWC co-chairman Harvey Weinstein said in a statement.
