The upcoming feature will be animated.
Warner Bros is bringing “The Flintstones” back to the big screen as an animated feature, three individuals familiar with the situation told TheWrap.
Chris Henchy, an executive at Will Ferrell and Adam McKay's Gary Sanchez Productions, is working on the script. Henchy produced “The Campaign” and co-wrote “The Other Guys.” Ferrell and McKay will executive produce the project.
The project remains in development and is not part of the Warner Bros. Animation Group, the new collaborative cooperative that made “The Lego Movie.” Yet the project is picking up steam at the studio, which is eager to mine old WB properties such as “Scooby-Doo” and “Looney Tunes.”
Everyone's favorite caveman family first made it to the big screen in 1994 with a live-action movie starring John Goodman, Rick Moranis and Elizabeth Perkins. That movie was followed by “The Flintstones in Viva Rock Vegas,” in 2000, which starred Mark Addy, Stephan Baldwin and Kristen Johnson.
