New Jersey Newspapers Demand Gov. Chris Christie Resign After ‘Stumping for Trump’

“We’re fed up with his long neglect of the state to pursue his own selfish agenda,” editorial says

Six Gannett-owned New Jersey newspapers issued a joint editorial calling for Gov. Chris Christie to resign following his endorsement of Donald Trump.

The editorial calls Christie “an utter disgrace” and says, “We’re fed up with his opportunism. We’re fed up with his hypocrisy. We’re fed up with his sarcasm. We’re fed up with his long neglect of the state to pursue his own selfish agenda.”

The six newspapers include the Asbury Park Press, Morristown Daily Record and Cherry Hill Courier-Post. Believe it or not, the editorial was written before Christie appeared as the opening act for Trump’s elaborate Super Tuesday press conference.

“And we’re fed up with his continuing travel out of state on New Jersey’s dime, stumping for Trump, after finally abandoning his own presidential campaign. For the good of the state, it’s time for Christie to do his long-neglected constituents a favor and resign as governor. If he refuses, citizens should initiate a recall effort,” the editorial says.

The last straw for the papers was apparently Monday’s news conference in which Christie refused to answer questions that were “off topic.”
