New York Times Tops Webby Award Noms

“Oscars of the Internet” celebrating 13th year.

The New York Times led the nominees for the 13 annual Webby Awards, which spotlight online excellence in more than 70 categories, from a wide range of sources, including viral videos and activist Web sites.

Also tapped on Tuesday was comedy site FunnyOrDie.com, a creation of Will Ferrell and Adam McKay, which garnerd two nominations for a December video called "Prop 8: The Musical."

Top Nominees for the awards, which have been dubbed "the Oscars of the Internet," include the Times (13), NBC (12) and The Onion (8. News site The Daily Beast, the humorous FAIL Blog and cooking site Cookstr each had two nominations.

Winners will be announced on May 5 and honored in a ceremony in New York on June 8.
