News Corp Ousts Dow Jones CEO Lex Fenwick After Less Than 2 Years

News Corp Chief Creative Officer William Lewis will serve as interim chief

News Corp has ousted Dow Jones CEO Lex Fenwick and installed William Lewis as interim chief as part of a review of “institutional strategy,” the company said on Tuesday.

Fenwick joined the company from Bloomberg less than two years ago, where he worked for 25 years.

Lewis, formerly News Corp Chief Creative officer, will serve as interim CEO while Dow Jones searches for a permanent replacement.

“We thank Lex for his time and energy at the helm of Dow Jones, and in particular for his original vision of DJX as an innovative way to integrate content and deliver it to customers in a timely manner,” Robert Thomson, Chief Executive of News Corp, said in a statement.

DJX — the digital platform currently in beta that combines all of Dow Jones’ news wires, market information, and trading tools — was Fenwick's brainchild and is scheduled for a wide launch this year.

In a statement, Thomson said that the company is reviewing Dow Jones’ institutional strategy “with an eye towards changes that will deliver even more value to its customers” and planning improvements to DJX.”

The interim CEO  joined News Corp in 2010 as Group General Manager at News International (now News UK) before getting elevated to his Chief Creative Officer post last year. He was charged with building new businesses and driving digital initiatives.

Previously, he served as Editor-in-Chief of the Telegraph Media Group in the UK, and as Business Editor of The Sunday Times.

Prior to joining Dow Jones in February, 2012, Fenwick was CEO of Bloomberg Ventures.
