Nic Cage Wins UN ‘Global Citizen’ Award

Also appointed United Nations goodwill ambassador

Nicolas Cage has won a U.N. award for his humanitarian work and has been appointed a goodwill ambassador for the U.N. Office on Drugs and Crime.
Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon presented the actor and filmmaker with the U.N. Correspondents Association’s Global Citizen of the Year award Friday for his humanitarian endeavors.
Cage, whose personal financial woes have been well chronicled in the press recently, has donated $2 million to establish a fund that helps former child soldiers. He also led a campaign around his 2005 film "Lord of War" to raise awareness about the international arms industry.
