N.W.A Movie ‘Straight Outta Compton’ Taps Director F. Gary Gray

F. Gary Gray, who directed Ice Cube’s “Friday,” will reteam with rapper-turned-actor to tell the story of his musical past

F. Gary Gray could be heading straight into New Line Cinema's N.W.A biopic.

"The Italian Job" director Gray is in negotiations to direct "Straight Outta Compton." The film will chronicle the rise of Southern California hip-hop group N.W.A, which spawned the careers of Ice Cube, Dr. Dre and Eazy-E.

The movie's name takes its title from the group's 1988 debut album, which yielded such songs as "Fuck tha Police" and "Gangsta Gangsta."
