NY Times Leads Media on Media But Twitter, Facebook Gain

A new study shows that more journalists still turn to traditional outlets for their media news, but that may change very soon

When the media industry wants to read about itself, the New York Times is its top source, but social media sites continue to gain traction on their more traditional progenitors.

In a survey conducted by the Reynolds Center at Arizona State University's Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication, 300 business journalists were asked where they got their news about the media industry.

The New York Times was the top vote-getter, followed by Poynter.org's Romenesko and the Wall Street Journal.

Rounding out the top five were Media Bistro and Twitter, the latter of which is gaining popularity rapidly. The poll also revealed that twice as many journalists are getting their news from Twitter and Facebook compared to just a year ago.

At that rate, expect both social media sites to keep climbing the list.
