Olbermann Out on ‘Football Night in America’?

Report: “Countdown” host will not be part of NBC’s Sunday night football broadcast

It’s been a rough summer for Keith Olbermann. First, his domain name is jacked by Tucker Carlson, whose business plan for the Daily Caller apparently includes cybersquatting.

Then, Nielsen released its cable ratings for July – with “Countdown” turning in its lowest-rated month in terms of total viewers in over two years. (According to Nielsen figures, the show averaged 949,000 viewers a night, the lowest monthly average since April 2008, when Olbermann averaged 948,000.)

Now, according to a report by the blog Sports By Brooks, Olbermann is not returning NBC’s Football Night In America Sunday evening broadcasts this season.

A spokesperson for NBC did not immediately return a request seeking comment. Olbermann's been a part of the broadcast since 2007.

According to the report, the move was made at the behest of NBC because the network wants Olbermann to focus his energy on “Countdown” – noting that the host “periodically did not appear on Friday editions of Countdown.”

Olbermann may also be busy promoting his latest book –“Pitchforks and Torches: The Worst of the Worst, From Beck, Bill and Bush to Palin and Other Posturing Republicans” — due in stores this fall.
