Although Midler has been nominated for two Academy Awards, the performance marked her first at the Oscars. While the song first surfaced in 1982, it was Midler's version for the 1998 film “Beaches” that topped the charts and boosted the tune into national consciousness.

Pink rocks! So does Bette. Let the people we have lost rest in peace; they have brought joy and influence to the world!
