The Tel Aviv University event, which is shifting to an annual schedule, will be held May 31-June 7
Producer Steve Tisch will chair the 16th Tel Aviv International Student Film Festival, the event’s backers announced Monday.
The festival, to be held May 31-June 7 at Tel Aviv University, will showcase 250 short films from 40 countries.
Established in 1986 by students from Tel Aviv University’s Department of Film & Television, it’s now one of the world’s largest of its sort. Beginning this year, the previously biannual festival will be held every year, with permanent funding from the Municipality of Tel Aviv, the Israel Film Council and Tel Aviv University.
Tisch, is a partner at Escape Artists Productions and is chairman and executive vice president of the NFL’s New York Giants. He’s the only person with both an Academy Award (for “Forrest Gump”) and a Super Bowl ring.
Tisch has two films scheduled for release this year. “Sex Tape,” directed by Jake Kasdan and starring Cameron Diaz and Jason Segel, opens in July; “The Equalizer,” directed by Antoine Fuqua and starring Denzel Washington, opens in September.
