‘Paranormal Activity,’ ‘Last Witch Hunter’ Show Strong Social Media Presence Ahead of Opening Weekend

The last installment of haunted house franchise is tracking extremely strong on Facebook, but Vin Diesel’s new action movie kills it on Twitter

Paramount’s “Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension” and Lionsgate’s “The Last Witch Hunter” are tracking extremely strong on social media, especially compared to this weekend’s other openings, “Jem and the Holograms” and “Rock the Kasbah.”

The sixth and final movie in the “Paranormal” franchise was tweeted about 13,932 times between Oct. 15 and Oct. 21. The franchise’s Facebook page added 114,896 “likes” to its already hefty fan base of 19.5 million.

Vin Diesel fantasy action flick “Witch Hunter” is only tracking for a $13 million opening weekend, but’s is proving to be extremely buzzy on both Facebook and Twitter, having 29,533 new page likes and 26,131 tweets, respectively. Diesel is also among the most popular Hollywood stars on Facebook, with over 95.7 million followers. His last status update promoting the movie has over 166,825 likes and nearly 1,826 shares.

Michael Fassbender‘s “Steve Jobs” biopic is expected to top this box office this weekend, but shows a pretty meager social media engagement after attracting only 4,184 new Facebook “likes” this past week. Sony can at least boast 12,367 new tweets about the film in the same time period.

Bill Murray‘s poorly reviewed “Rock the Kasbah” lies at the complete opposite end of the spectrum This past week with only 930 extra “likes” on Facebook this past week. However, it wasn’t far behind “Jem and the Holograms” on Twitter with 8,431 tweets, while “Jem” was mentioned in 8,899.
