The production company behind "Paranormal Activity" is using its knowledge of things that go bump in the night to create a new haunted house attraction in downtown Los Angeles.
Blumhouse Productions, which also produced the low-budget shocker "Insidious," said it will draw on its expertise in found footage chill-fests to transform the Variety Arts Theater into a Halloween attraction called The Blumhouse of Horrors.
As the part of the storyline it has cooked up, visitors will tour a haunted theater that used to stage a demented vaudeville show featuring a deranged, dark-arts magician.
The attraction will be open to the public Thursday through Saturday throughout October, and the entire week of Halloween. Tickets cost $29.
“Blumhouse is passionate about telling scary stories in entirely new ways and we are taking everything we have learned from our film production experience to create a one-of-a-kind Haunted House in downtown L.A.," Jason Blum, founder and CEO of Blumhouse said in a statement.
Also known as “The Playhouse,” the Variety Arts Theater is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and once hosted performances by Golden Age movie stars like Laurel & Hardy and Clark Gable.
