Paris Hilton Charged With Felony Drug Possession

Monday’s announcement follows her weekend arrest in Las Vegas

paris hilton mugshotParis Hilton was charged Monday with felony possession of a controlled substance following her weekend arrest on suspicion of cocaine possession.

Hilton will be arraigned Oct. 27, a Clark County, Nevada, District Court spokesperson told CNN.

Hilton, 29, was arrested late Friday in front of the Wynn Hotel on the Las Vegas Strip after police smelled "a strong odor of marijuana" coming from the Cadillac Escalade in which she was a passenger, according to the arrest report. The driver of the vehicle was identified as Cy Waits, 34, Hilton's boyfriend and a Vegas nightclub owner.

Hilton was held and then released early Saturday morning.

"This matter will be dealt with in the courts, not in the media, and I encourage people not to rush to judgment until all of the facts have been dealt with in a court of law," Hilton's attorney, David Chesnoff, said in a statement Saturday.

Hilton's publicist did not immediately return a call seeking comment Monday.

Hilton told police the purse in which the cocaine was allegedly found did not belong to her, according to the arrest report.
