The movie is based on Vincent Bugliosi's 2007 book, “Reclaiming History: The Assassination of President John F. Kennedy." Journalist Peter Landesman wrote the adapted screenplay and makes his directorial debut, as well.

Tom Hanks and Gary Goetzman's production company, Playtone, partnered with Exclusive Media and The American Film Company to produce "Parkland." Actor Bill Paxton is also a producer.

“We’re delighted to be partnering with Exclusive Media and Playtone on this exciting project,” said Joe Ricketts, the founder and CEO of The American Film Company. “Our aim is to tell compelling stories that accurately portray extraordinary characters and events from American history, and that’s exactly what 'Parkland' promises to do.”

Described as a dramatic thriller, the narrative recounts the chaotic events that occurred at Parkland Hospital in Dallas following JFK's assassination on Nov. 22, 1963. In order to coincide with the 50th anniversary of that date, producers are aiming for the U.S. theatrical release later this year.
