Patti Smith's is adapting her bestselling 2010 memoir "Just Kids" with John Logan.
The writer, punk rock singer and visual artist and Logan are writing the movie on spec.
The book is a huge seller. It's in its 37th week on the New York Times bestseller list and has been translated into 27 languages. It's about famous people — Smith and the photographer Robert Mapplethorpe.
And Logan knows how to write stories.
He wrote "Gladiator," "The Aviator," "Sweeney Todd," "Rango," "The Last Samurai" and the upcoming "Coriolanus" and "Hugo." He was nominated for the Oscar for "Gladiator" and "Aviator" — and is attached to the next James Bond film.
In addition, he won the Tony for "Red," a play about the painter Mark Rothko.
