Johnny Depp, Adam Sandler (With Black Eye) Pick Up People’s Choice Awards

Conan O’Brien, Jane Lynch, Taylor Swift among 2010 winners

Adam Sandler has a black eye, but at least he's alive.

The actor was sporting one when he picked up the first honor — for favorite comedic star — at the People's Choice Awards on Wednesday night. The show, hosted by Queen Latifah, was broadcast live from the Nokia Theatre in Los Angles on CBS.

Jennifer Aniston presented the award to Sandler, who joked about his shiner but did not say where he got it.

More than 175 million votes were cast — by the people — for this year's edition, an apparent record.

Johnny Depp, chosen as the actor of the decade at last year's ceremony, won the People's Choice for favorite actor  — and won for arguably two of the legendary actor's least memorable roles ("Alice in Wonderland" and "The Tourist.") Depp received a standing ovation before picking up his glass hardware.

There were few upsets. Zac Efron won the the People's Choice for "Favorite Movie Star Under 25," upsetting "Twilight" stars Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart.

"Black Swan" star Mila Kunis — freshly single following her breakup with longtime boyfriend Macaulay Culkin — presented the award for favorite talk show host to Conan O'Brien, whose Team Coco proved better at stacking the vote for the ginger-haired comedian than Oprah's fans.

"We have a problem," O'Brien joked. "When you're up for an award against Oprah, you don't want to win. It makes Oprah very, very angry."

While the People's Choice Awards have little impact on the big awards season picture, the show ostensibly kicks off the year's televised awards slate.

Taylor Swift — no surprise — won favorite country artist, while Selena Gomez & the Scene won the award for favorite breakout artist.

Neil Patrick Harris ("How I Met Your Mother") won favorite TV comedy actor, while favorite TV comedy actress went to Jane Lynch of "Glee," which also won the People's Choice for favorite TV comedy.
