People’s Choice Awards Get January Air Date

Voting began Tuesday for potential new categories

The people will have their say on their favorite entertainers once again on Jan. 8, when the 40th annual People’s Choice Awards air on CBS, the network said Tuesday.

The show, which will again be executive-produced by “The Voice” honcho Mark Burnett, will air live from L.A. Live’s Nokia Theatre at 9 p.m. ET/PT.

“I am excited to be back with such a great team producing the ‘People’s Choice Awards’ for the fifth year in a row,” Burnett said. “What better way to celebrate great entertainment in our industry than to be honored with an award from those the show is truly all about – the fans.”

Starting Tuesday, voters can pick from 15 potential new categories at PeoplesChoice.com/pca/categories. The top vote-getters — among a group that includes Favorite Reboot (Movies) and Favorite Alternative Artist (Music), will be added to the pool of categories for the 2014 ceremony.

Burnett will be joined on the show’s production team by Jane Mun, Fred Nelson and Hyunjoo “Kimmie” Kim. Mun and Nelson will also executive-produce the show, with Kim as co-executive producer of the telecast.
