‘Peter and the Starcatcher’ to Get Off-Broadway Run

Tony-winning "Peter and the Starcatcher" is moving to New World Stages

"Peter and the Starcatcher" will continue to fly, but off-Broadway. The prequel to "Peter Pan" is set to wrap up its Broadway run on Jan. 20, but that won't mean curtains for the Tony-winning production.

Joan MarcusProducers of the show will remount the fantasy adventure with the original design team. It will transfer to New World Stages this spring, although producers did not announce which  members of the cast will make the transition nor did they provide a firm opening date.

New World Stages has hosted other Broadway transfers, such as the Tony-winning musical "Avenue Q."

"Peter and the Starcatcher" was written by Rick Elice ("Jersey Boys") and directed by Roger Rees and Alex Timbers. It began performances on March 28, 2012, and opened April 15, 2012, at Broadway’s Brooks Atkinson Theatre, earning five Tony Awards. When it closes, it will have run for 18 previews and 320 performances.

It earned strong critical notices from New York Times critic Ben Brantley who called it an "ecstatic production."

"Our transfer to New World Stages allows the ‘little show that could’ to continue to inspire and enchant even more audiences," producer Nancy Nagel Gibbs said in a statement.

The show grossed a solid $402,773 for the week ending Dec. 23, and Gibbs said that the Christmas week was the show's highest earning one ever.

"Peter and the Starcatcher" was originally mounted at the Williamstown Theatre Festival in 2007, eventually making its way to the New York Theatre Workshop in 2011 before hitting the Great White Way.
