Peter Capaldi Faces a Dinosaur in Victorian London in Latest ‘Doctor Who’ Trailer (Video)

12th Doctor kicks off his adventures, along with Jenna Coleman, on August 23

Peter Capaldi steps into the iconic role of “Doctor Who” for his first full-length adventure, and it looks like he’s going to hit the ground running. More than likely, he’ll be running away from a dinosaur.

The Doctor does love to run. While Capaldi may be older than the actors who’ve portrayed the titular Time Lord in his most recent incarnations, he looks ready to handle the non-stop action and adventure.

He even spruced up the TARDIS a bit, even if Jenna Coleman’s Clara isn’t impressed.

A treat for long-time fans, Neve McIntosh appears in the trailer as the Victorian-era Silurian detective, Vastra. And if Vastra is around, there’s a good chance we’ll get to see the whole Paternoster Gang, including her wife Jenny, portrayed by Catrin Stewart, and the Sontaran nurse Strax, played by Dan Starkey.

A fan-favorite group, they’ll certainly help ease fans into the always-jarring transition of a new Doctor. Viewers will also get 75 minutes to get used to him, as the Season 8 premiere promises to be the longest episode yet in the current “Doctor Who” era, defined since the 2005 reboot.

The premiere, “Deep Breath,” was written by showrunner Steven Moffat and directed by Ben Wheatley.

The show premieres worldwide on Sat., Aug. 23, airing on BBC America at 8 p.m. ET/PT in the United States.
