Piers Morgan is returning to his roots — the sleazy, cutthroat world of British tabloid journalism.
The current CNN host, who worked as an editor at The Sun, News of the World and Daily Mirror before finding TV fame on "Britain's Got Talent," is executive producing a series that will chronicle the rise of tabloid journalism, the sexual revolution and class warfare in 1970s England.

The series, titled "Fleet Street," is being developed by Starz and Lionsgate. The drama is being produced by Lionsgate, in association with Morgan's Ferret Productions, Richard Branson's Virgin Produced and Octagon Entertainment.
In addition to Morgan, the project is being executive produced by Octagon managing director John Ferriter. Virgin Produced's Jason Felts, Justin Berfield and Michael Forman are also executive producing.

Danny Brocklehurst ("Shameless," "Clocking Off") is writing the pilot episode of the series, which will tell the story through the eyes of an American journalist, and will also executive produce.
Morgan painted a debauched portrait of the subject matter in a statement on the project Wednesday, evoking a world — perhaps out of experience — filled with rampant sexual activity and drug use.
“Imagine an industry where every single opponent worked in the same street, competing with each other by day — drinking, brawling, fornicating, nightclubbing and cocaine-snorting with each other by night. A street full of the most ruthless and amoral people in the world existed, and it was called Fleet Street,” Morgan said.
"It was the dawn of the celebrity era, in all its gruesome detail – a revolution that changed pop culture, and the relationship between the press and politicians, royals, and stars," he added, calling Fleet Street in the '70s a hotbed of scoops and shagging.
Sounds like a cross between "Austin Powers" and "All the President's Men."
