‘Pirates 4’ Hits $900M Globally, Becomes Disney’s Biggest Int’l Hit Ever

Massive foreign ticket sales has fourth Johnny Depp eyeliner spectacle on pace to exceed $1 billion worldwide

No massive domestic hit, not problem.

Disney's fourth "Pirates of the Caribbean" movie, "On Stranger Tides," has grossed more than $900 million worldwide since its May 20 release.

Grossing $695.9 million internationally, the film has also yielded the studio's biggest foreign total ever. The film's official global total now stands at $907.4 million, with domestic grosses hovering at $211.5 million through Tuesday.

"On Stranger Tides" is on pace to easily surpass $1 billion at the global box office and could be the top-grossing "Pirates" film ever, possibly beating out 2006's "Dead Man's Chest," which took in $1.066 billion worldwide.

While domestic box office for "Pirates 4" has been slow in relation to the other three films in the franchise, surpassing $210 million through Monday, the movie's international performance has been nothing short of incendiary.

"On Stranger Tides" is the fourth biggest international grosser of all time among all studios, beaten only by James Cameron's "Avatar" ($2.02 billion) and "Titanic" ($1.24 billion), as well as the third "Lord of the Rings" movie ($742.1 million).
