Even after 14 years and four movies, the appeal of Captain Jack Sparrow hasn’t waned in the slightest, if the reaction to the upcoming “Pirates of the Caribbean” sequel at CinemaCon is any indication.
Disney screened the next installment in the series, “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales,” as part of its Las Vegas presentation. The new film will pit Jack against a former rival named Armando Salazar (Javier Bardem) and his team of undead pirate hunters, who have escaped the Devil’s Triangle and are looking to exterminate Jack and his fellow pirates once and for all. To stop him, Jack goes on a quest to find the Trident of Poseidon, which grants the bearer control over the seas.
And it looks like Disney might have another winner on their hands. Here’s what CinemaCon attendees had to say about “Pirates”:
New “Pirates of the Caribbean” has good pacing, solid action and a menacing villain in Javier Bardem. #CinemaCon2017

The new Pirates of the Caribbean is a big step up from the lifeless 4. Back to the fun myth building, still miss Verbinski’s imprint.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales is a pleasant surprise. Continues the legacy, focuses on the characters and the world.

Thing I liked most about #PiratesoftheCaribbean is it felt the most like the first movie, which is my personal favorite. Strong finale pic.twitter.com/SF9b6uk4GU
