Police Arrest Journalist From Another News Corp. Tabloid

A journalist from The Sun has been arrested under suspicion of bribery, Reuters reports

A journalist at another of Rupert Murdoch’s British tabloids – the Sun – has been arrested by the London police under suspicion of bribing a police officer, Reuters reported.

A spokesman for News International, News Corp.’s U.K. publishing subsidiary, confirmed to Reuters that one of its employees has been arrested.

The phone hacking scandal at News Corp.’s now-shuttered tabloid, the News of the World, prompted a wider inquiry into hacking, bribery and other shoddy journalistic practices in England. This would appear to be a direct result of that.

The steady stream of arrests over the summer related to phone hacking has halted, but the list of victims has continued to grow.

As the broader investigation continues, the spotlight now shines on certain News Corp. executives, particularly James Murdoch, who in his role as Chairman and CEO of News Corp. Europe & Asia, oversaw all the U.K. publications.

He will appear before Parliament for his second round of testimony next Thursday fresh off further claims that he has misled the governmental authorities.

Earlier this week, News Corp.'s head of human resources, Beryl Cook, resigned. She was widely seen as a key Murdoch ally from her time at BSkyB, of which James Murdoch is the Chairman.

Over the summer, LulzSec, a cyber hacking organization, claimed to have hacked the Sun's website and planted a false story alleging Rupert Murdoch had died.
