‘Portlandia’ Snags Quick Second-Season OK

Fred Armisen gets the green-light to bring more Northwest-derived laughs for IFC

Fred Armisen and Carrie Brownstein can raise their recycled coffee cups in celebration.

The Independent Film Channel has already given the go-ahead for the second season of Armisen and Brownstein's comedy "Portlandia," which debuted on IFC a mere three weeks ago.

IFC's order for the show's second season calls for ten episodes, which will premiere in January 2012. The final episode of its first season airs Feb. 25.

The Portland, Ore.-centric series, which has averaged 235,000 viewers between the ages of 18 and 49, grew out of "Saturday Night Live" cast member Armisen and Sleater-Kinney musician Brownstein's long-standing collaboration as the Internet comedy duo ThunderAnt. The pair pitched the show to IFC and "SNL" producer Lorne Michaels' Broadway Video in 2009.

"Portlandia" revolves around sketches based around the city. It has included such guest stars as Kyle MacLachlan and songwriter Aimee Mann.
