President Obama Tells ‘Daily Show’s’ Jon Stewart, ‘I Can’t Believe You’re Leaving Before Me’ (Video)

Commander in Chief also jokes about an executive order to keep the host at the Comedy Central show

President Obama is hellbent on keeping Jon Stewart at “The Daily Show.”

“I can’t believe you’re leaving before me,” Obama said Tuesday during his final appearance on Stewart’s Comedy Central show. “In fact, I’m issuing a new executive order that Jon Stewart cannot leave the show.”

The President quickly joked that his new order is already “being challenged in the courts.”

Stewart, who will leave “The Daily Show” next month after more than 15 years, pressed Obama on the recent Iran nuclear deal and the issues facing veterans as they try to get medical treatment at VA hospitals.

“I do think the work we did early starts bearing fruit later,” Obama said. “It just so happens that people are seeing the work we did when we first came in. Iran, for example, [it] took four or five years to get them to to table.”

Regarding the VA, Obama acknowledged that his administration has failed to live up to the promise to reform the system for U.S. veterans within five years. “The situation with VA has always been we make a promise, but too often it’s under-resourced,” he said.

“People work hard in the VA. But if you have a government that was built on 1930 models and it’s not updated for decades, there will be a gap in terms of what it is doing now relative to what other folks do,” the president continued. “It is the biggest example of that. We are redesigning from soup to nuts.”

Tuesday marked Obama’s seventh and final appearance as a guest on “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart,” and his third since taking office as president.
