Prince released a new single called “Breakdown,” and you can listen to it for free.
The music icon dropped the new tune (below) just short of midnight on Friday, the same day he announced he’s working on a new studio album.
The “Purple Rain” singer told late-night host Arsenio Hall in March that the song was coming, but didn’t say when.
“There’s a song we’ve just written called, ‘The Breakdown,'” he said. “One of the things that we try to do, though, is wait until we have other songs that go together with our favorites. That’s why it takes a long time to come out with albums these days. You know, not being under contract, there’s no rush.”
Under a new partnership with Warner Bros. Records, the label will release will release previously unheard material from the artist and a digitally remastered, deluxe 30th anniversary edition of his 1984 soundtrack to the film “Purple Rain.”
Prince didn’t say when it would drop, but he did promise “a brand-new studio album is on the way.”
