Graphic novel adaptation, due out next January, is the latest film to be prepped for the funny-glasses format
Hollywood’s 3D conversion rush continues, with Sony announcing Friday that its upcoming graphic-novel adaptation “Priest” will be released in the format next January.
The move follows Warner Bros.’ announcement earlier in the week that four of its upcoming films, including “Clash of the Titans” and “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 1” would undergo conversion.
Currently, there are not enough digitally equipped screens to support all the 3D movies entering the marketplace. However, with exhibitors hoping to have more than 7,000 3D capable screens online by the end of the year, that could change by the time “Priest” is released wide on Jan. 14, 2011.
The Screen Gems release was pushed back to January to allow time for the conversion.
The film, which is about a warrior priest who teams with a young sheriff and a beautiful priestess to take down a band of renegade vampires. Paul Bettany, Cam Gigandet, Karl Urban and Maggie Q star, and Scott Stewart directs.
