It doesn’t look like it will be easy
For fans of writer and director Gareth Evans’ “The Raid: Redemption” who aren’t lucky enough to watch the world premiere of “The Raid 2” at the Sundance Film Festival, at least there’s a new action-packed trailer to ogle.
The sequel to the 2011 martial arts cult hit picks up after the bloody events of the first with officer Rama (Iko Uwais) being pressured to go undercover in prison for an anti-corruption task force in order t0 guarantee protection for his wife and child.
His mission is to get close to a new mob boss by befriending his incarcerated son, and link the crime lord to police corruption. A personal vendetta, however, threatens to consume him and bring his mission — and the organized crime syndicate — down around him.
While the original was one man taking an entire apartment complex full of dangerous thugs, the sequel is not bound to just one building, and Rama will be taking on the entire underworld on the streets of Jakarta, Indonesia.
“The Raid 2” premieres at Sundance on Tuesday night and will hit U.S. theaters on March 28.
