Well Go USA Entertainment has acquired North American and select international rights for Sarah Adina Smith’s psychological thriller “Buster’s Mal Heart.”

The film stars Emmy winner Rami Malek (“Mr. Robot“) as a troubled man who goes on the run as he seeks distance from his past and what awaits him.

The film premiered at the 2016 Toronto International Film Festival last month in the Vanguard section of the annual gathering.

“Buster’s Mal Heart” marks the second feature from writer-director Smith (“The Midnight Swim”).

The movie also features performances from DJ Qualls (“The Man in the High Castle”), Kate Lyn Sheil (“House of Cards”), Toby Huss (“Halt and Catch Fire”) and Lin Shaye (“Insidious”).

The film is set to open in theaters early next year, with a digital and home video release to follow later in the year.

“From the first frame of the film, the talent on display in ‘Buster’s Mal Heart’ is immediately apparent,” said Dylan Marchetti of Well Go USA Entertainment. “We think audiences around the globe will respond the same way we did, which was to exit the theater with our jaws on the floor, and we can’t wait to bring this film to them.”

“Well Go has a strong, daring vision for our release,” said Smith. “They understand that audiences crave spiritually challenging cinema, that they’re hungry for movies that ask big questions.”

The film was produced by Jonako Donley of Everything is Everything and Travis Stevens of Snowfort Pictures.

Gamechanger Films financed the project, while Mynette Louie, Julie Parker Benello, Dan Cogan, Geralyn Dreyfous and Wendy Ettinger served as executive producers.
