Rascals Reuniting for Broadway Show with Steven Van Zandt Producing

The Rascals will reunite for the first time since 1970

The Rascals, the groundbreaking soul group behind "Good Lovin'" and "People Got to Be Free," are reuniting on Broadway, thanks to producer Steven Van Zandt.

Titled "The Rascals: Once Upon a Dream," the show debuted at the Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, N.Y., last December to wide acclaim. It marks the first time the original band of Felix Cavaliere (keyboard & vocals), Eddie Brigati (vocals), Dino Danelli (drums) and Gene Cornish (guitar) have played together since 1970.

"The Rascals: Once Upon a Dream" will last for 15 performances only — kicking off April 15 at Broadway’s Richard Rodgers Theatre and fishing up on May 5. It's being billed as a hybrid rock ’n’ roll concert and Broadway show, one that will feature live performances while integrating  archival footage and film segments on an LED screen.

Van Zandt, the E Street Band guitarist and star of "The Sopranos," has been vocal about his love for The Rascals, and worked with Danelli in the 1980s with his band Little Steven and the Disciples of Soul.

Van Zandt was called on to give The Rascals' 1997 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction speech.

"To sound that black, you have to be Italian," Van Zandt said of the blue-eyed soulsters.

He went on to say that the band's song "I Ain't Gonna Eat Out My Heart Anymore," was "…sexier than than the sex I was having with my girlfriend."
