Ratings: Cartoons Score for Fox

But ABC’s two new Sunday night series — “The Gates,” “Scoundrels” — both lost audiences

Fox won the ratings race Sunday night with repeats of cartoon comedies, averaging a 1.4 rating/5  share in the key adults 18-49 demographic. "Family Guy" was the evening's top show with an average 2.6/6 from 9-9:30 p.m.

UNFORTUNATE SON "Sons of Tucson" was Fox's lone miss. The live-action comedy scored an 0.5/2, coming in behind all the other major networks and both of the big Spanish-language stations. Fox must feel vindicated in its decision to cancel this show back in May — it'll come to an end after the the network burns off the last new episode of the first season in August.

TIE FOR NUMBER 2 NBC and ABC tied for second place. Both networks averaged 1.1/3 from 7-11 p.m. ABC aired repeats of "America's Funniest Home Videos" and "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" followed by new episodes of "Scoundrels" and "The Gates." NBC broadcast a new episode of "Dateline" followed by re-runs of "Law & Order: Criminal Intent."

SECOND-EPISODE SLUMP ABC's two new Sunday night series both lost audiences. Second episodes of "The Gates" and "Scoundrels" both scored less than the season premieres on June 21. "Scoundrels," a comedy about a crime family trying to go straight, tied for third place from 9-10 p.m. with a 1.1/3, down 18 percent from last week. The suburban vampire show "The Gates" got 1.1/3, down 36 percent from last week. In spite of hemorrhaging audience, "The Gates" hung on for second place from 10-11 p.m.

DAYTIME GOES PRIMETIME "The Daytime Emmy Awards" weren't a ratings winner for CBS. The network averaged 1.1/3 with a live broadcast of the ceremony from 9-11 p.m. CBS' Daytime Emmy telecast was up 83 percent from last year's show on the CW, but it was down 8 percent from ABC's airing of the 2008 awards.
