Ratings: ‘American Idol,’ ‘Michael J. Fox,’ ‘The Taste’ Drop to New Lows on CBS Rerun Night

All original episodes suffer drops on bad night for TV, while Hollywood’s film elite were attending the Critics Choice Movie Awards on The CW

“American Idol” fell further last night in its Thursday premiere, marking the 13-season-long show’s lowest second episode ever, though Fox easily won the night in the process.

The singing competition dropped 32 percent from last year’s premiere on the same night. However, many shows saw a significant slide on Thursday: NBC’s “The Michael J. Fox Show” fell 40 percent to a series low, ABC’s “The Taste” dropped 31 percent to its own worst ever rating.

Fox was first in ratings with a 3.8 rating/11 share in the advertiser-coveted 18-49 demographic and first in total viewers with an average of 13.2 million, according to preliminary numbers. “Idol” was the only show on its schedule.

CBS was second in ratings with a 1.5/5 and in total viewers with 7.2 million. The network aired repeats entirely.

Univision was third in ratings with a 1.2/3, but fifth in total viewers with 3.1 million.

ABC and NBC tied for fourth in ratings, each with a 1.0/3. ABC was third in viewers with 3.4 million, NBC was fourth with 3.1 million.

For ABC, “The Taste” at 8 p.m. earned a 0.9/3 — its lowest to-date — and 3.2 million viewers. A rerun followed.

For NBC, “Community” at 8 earned a 1.1/4 — a 21 percent drop from prior week — and 3.2 million viewers. “Parks and Recreation” at 8:30 dropped 20 percent to a 1.2/4. The Amy Poehler comedy had 3.1 million viewers. “Sean Saves the World” at  9 also dropped 20 percent to a 0.8/2, with 2.7 million viewers. “The Michael J. Fox Show” at 9:30 got a 0.6/2 — a 40 percent drop from last week and the lowest ever in-season Thursday original comedy rating in the key demo. It pulled in 2 million viewers. “Parenthood” at 10 tied a series low with a 1.2/4. It had 4 million viewers.

Telemundo was sixth in ratings with a 0.6/2 and seventh in total viewers with 1.4 million.

The CW was seventh in ratings with a 0.4/1 sixth in total viewers with 2 million. The 19th Annual Critics Choice Movie Awards were the only show on the schedule, dropping 33 percent from last year’s telecast.
