Ratings: ‘Fashion Star’ Gets Slow Start on a Quiet Night, ‘New Girl’ Tops

“Cougar Town” and “The River” both hit series lows

NBC's new reality offering "Fashion Star" got off to a soft start on a slow Tuesday night, while Fox's "New Girl" took top ratings honors. Fox, NBC and CBS all shared the top ratings spot of the night, with CBS taking a win in total viewers despite airing repeats, according to preliminary numbers.

NBC, like Fox and CBS, averaged a 1.8 rating/5 share in the adults 18-49 demographic, and took a razor-thin victory over ABC for second place in total viewers with an average 5.4 million. The network's night began with "Biggest Loser" from 8 to 9:30, which posted a 2.0/6 in the demo with 6.3 million total viewers. The "Fashion Star" premiere at 9:30, meanwhile, drew a not particularly encouraging 1.6/4 in the demo and 4.6 million total viewers. In the show's defense, it did lead its competition in the timeslot, and didn't suffer any significant drop-off from half-hour to half-hour. Even so, the premiere came in sixth place in the demo overall for the night, even with CBS taking a pass on original programming for the night.

At Fox, "Raising Hope" at 8 posted a 1.8/6 in the demo and 4.3 million total viewers, while "I Hate My Teenage Daughter" at 8:30 received a 1.3/4 in the demo and 3.5 million total viewers. At 9, "New Girl," despite a 10 percent drop from last week, took the night's top ratings with a 2.7/7 in the demo and 5.7 million total viewers. The network's night closed with "Breaking In" at 9:30, which was down 12 percent in the demo with a 1.5/4. The show received 3.5 million total viewers. The network took fourth place in total viewers for the night with an average 4.2 million.

ABC came in fourth in the demo with an average 1.4/4 and third in total viewers with an average 5.4 million. Following a "Last Man Standing" repeat at 8, "Cougar Town" inched down to a new series low in the demo with a 1.4/4, with 4.4 million total viewers. "The River" also hit a series low in the demo, dropping 13 percent to a 1.3/4 with 4.1 million total viewers. "Body of Proof" closed the night at 10 with a 1.4/4 in the demo and 7.3 million total viewers.

CBS ran repeats throughout the night, with "NCIS" at 8 taking most-watched honors with 12.7 million total viewers. The network was also the most-watched for the night with an average 10.4 million total viewers.
