With ABC, CBS and NBC splitting the audience with their Republican National Convention coverage, Fox took a ratings win Tuesday night with Gordon Ramsay's "MasterChef," according to preliminary numbers.
Fox drew first place in the advertiser-coveted 18-49 demographic with a 2.1 rating/6 share and third place in total viewers with 5 million. Following a "MasterChef" repeat at 8 p.m., a new episode of the show at 9 drew the night's top numbers in the demo, climbing 17 percent from last week for a 2.8/8 and attracting 6.5 million total viewers.
NBC came in second in ratings and first with total viewers with a 2.0/6 in the demo and 8.2 million. "America's Got Talent" at 8 drew a 2.4/7 in the demo and 9.5 million total viewers, which made it the night's most-watched program. NBC News' coverage of the convention at 10 took a 1.3/4, an 8 percent improvement over the network's equivalent convention coverage last year, and drew 5.4 million total viewers.
Univision drew third place in ratings and fourth in total viewers with a 1.4/4 and 3.4 million.
CBS took fourth in ratings and second in total viewers with a 1.0/3 and 6.2 million. The network ran repeats save for its convention coverage at 10, which dropped 25 percent from four years ago for a 0.6/2 and drew 3.3 million total viewers.
ABC took fourth place in ratings and fifth in total viewers with a 0.6/2 and 2.5 million. Like CBS, the opted for repeats, save for its convention coverage at 10, and like CBS, it took a ratings hit with its coverage. The network's coverage of the convention dropped 38 percent from four years ago, to a 0.5/2, and attracted 2.3 million total viewers.
