ABC's "Happy Endings" slid to a season low in the ratings Wednesday night as "American Idol" took an expected win, pushing Fox to an overall victory for the night, according to preliminary numbers.
Fox, took first place in ratings and total viewership. "American Idol" from 8 to 10 had a 12 percent growth in the adults 18-49 demographic over last Wednesday, easily taking the night's top ratings spot with a 5.6 rating/15 share and 18.5 million total viewers.
CBS grabbed second place in ratings and total viewers with an average 2.2/6 in the demo and 8.7 million. The network's sole original programming for the night, "Survivor" at 8, inched up to a season high of 3.9/10 in the demo, with 10.6 million total viewers. Repeats followed.
ABC, was in third place in the ratings and total viewers with an average 1.7/5 in the demo and 5.1 million. Following reruns of "The Middle," "Suburgatory" and "Modern Family," the network aired "Happy Endings" at 9:30, which dropped 26 percent in the ratings to a season low of 2.0/5, with 4.5 million total viewers. The ABC News special "Revenge for Real" at 10 posted a 1.4/4 in the demo and 5 million total viewers.
NBC, in fourth place with an average 1.2/3 in the demo and 3.7 million total viewers, ran "Whitney" at 8, which was up slightly for a 1.6/5 in the demo and 4.3 million total viewers. "Are You There, Chelsea?" at 8:30 was also up, climbing 15 percent in the demo for a 1.5/4, with 3.7 million total viewers. Following a "Law & Order: SVU" repeat, "Rock Center With Brian Williams" at 10 grew 43 percent in the demo with a 1.0/3, taking 3.6 million total viewers.
