Ratings: Kiddie Opera Singer Boosts NBC to a Slight Win

Big reality night: “America’s Got Talent” is good for ABC, Fox hits with “SYTYCD” and “Big Brother” saves CBS

Buoyed by a performance from child opera sensation Jackie Evancho, NBC's "America's Got Talent" was the top show on the primetime ratings charts Wednesday night with a 2.7/8 score from 9-10 p.m. During the broadcast, Evancho advanced to the semi-finals and sang a note after her song to quell rumors of lip-synching.

CLOSE CALL Technically, Fox and NBC tied for the evening. Both networks averaged a 2.1 rating/7 share in the key adults 18-49 demographic, but we'll call this a slight win for NBC since its primetime schedule runs from 8-11 p.m. while Fox runs with a shorter 8-10 p.m. lineup. Fox aired a two-hour episode of "So You Think You Can Dance."

"BIG BROTHER" CBS had the night's number two show– "Big Brother." The Orwellian summer reality tradition posted a 2.4/8 from 8-9 p.m. Overall, CBS was Wednesday night's third place network with a 1.7/6 average. CBS also broadcast repeats of "Criminal Minds" and "CSI: NY."

STALE RE-RUNS ABC was at the back of the pack with an all-repeat lineup. ABC averaged 1.1/3 behind old episodes of "The Middle," "Modern Family," "Cougar Town" and "Castle."
