Ratings: Olympics Up – and Down

London Olympics slip from last Tuesday, but beat equivalent night of 2008 games

The Olympics saw a double-digit drop from a week ago Tuesday night, but still managed to outperform the equivalent night of the 2008 Beijing games, according to preliminary numbers.

Getty ImagesNBC's coverage of the Olympics gave the network an easy win in both the advertiser-cherished 18-49 demographic and total viewers with a 9.3 rating/27 share and 29.6 million. That's down 24 percent in the demo compared to last Tuesday, but an 11 percent increase from the equivalent night of 2008's Beijing games. (On Monday night the Olympics fell behind the equivalent night for Beijing.)

Univision drew second place in ratings and third in total viewers with a 1.4/4 and 3.7 million.

CBS and Fox, which both aired repeats Tuesday night, tied for third place in ratings with a 0.9/3, with CBS taking second in total viewers with 5.5 million and Fox coming in fifth in total viewers with 2.4 million.

ABC drew fifth place in ratings and fourth in total viewers with a 0.7/2 and 2.5 million. The network aired repeats with the exception of "ABC News: NY Med" at 10, which rebounded from last week's series low, climbing 17 percent in the demo to a 0.7/2 and taking 2.8 million total viewers.
