Ratings: ‘True Blood’ and ‘The Newsroom’ Finales Hit Highs

"True Blood" sucks in 6.3 million total viewers, while "The Newsroom" grabs 2.8 million

HBO's ongoing vampire drama "True Blood" and Aaron Sorkin's freshman cable series "The Newsroom" ended their seasons on high notes, matching or hitting season bests with their finales on Sunday.

"True Blood" drew 6.3 million total viewers over two airings Sunday night, with 5 million tuning in for the 9 p.m. airing and another 1.2 million checking out an 11 p.m. encore performance. Sunday night's accumulated viewership slightly surpassed that of the "True Blood" premiere in June, delivering a season high for the series when both airings are factored in.

"The Newsroom," meanwhile, drew in 2.8 million total viewers with its first season finale, with 2.3 million for the 10 p.m. airing, and another half a million watching the midnight re-airing. That's a high for the series so far, and a considerable improvement over the June premiere, when the Jeff Daniels-starring drama took in 2.1 million viewers with its 10 p.m. airing.
