Ratings: ‘The Voice’ Beats ‘Dancing With the Stars,’ ‘Glee’ in Major Upset

NBC’s new singing competition beats out ABC’s televised dance-off and a Lady Gaga-themed episode of Fox’s musical series

It loooks like NBC has a much-needed hit: "The Voice" was the top-rated series on Tuesday night, besting ABC's reliable ratings winner "Dancing With the Stars" and Fox's popular musical series "Glee," according to preliminary numbers.

"The Voice" — which features Christina Aguilera, Cee Lo Green, Adam Levine and Blake Shelton as musical coaches to aspiring singing stars — began its two-hour premiere at 9 p.m., garnering a 5.1 rating/13 share in the adults 18-49 demo, and 11.8 million total viewers.

The "Dancing With the Stars" results show at 9 on ABC was a distant second, with a 3.5/9 in the demo and 17.9 million total viewers. (The good news for "DWTS" is that last night's performance marked a 17 percent improvement over the previous week.)

The remainder of ABC's roster consisted of "Dancing With the Stars: The Road to the Finals" at 8, which received a 2.4/7 in the demo and 12.8 million total viewers, and "Body of Proof" capping the evening at 10 with a 2.3/6 in the demo — down 4 percent from the previous week — and 12 million total viewers

Fox's special 90-minute, Lady Gaga-themed "Glee," which began at 8, took third place in the ratings race, garnering a 3.4/10 in the demo and 8.5 million total viewers. Fox finished out its evening at 9:30 with an episode of "Raising Hope," which had a 1.9/5 in the demo, down 10 percent from last week's performance (which aired at 9), and 4.5 million total viewers.

CBS ran repeats on Wednesday night, with "NCIS" at 8 taking a 2.0/6 in the demo and 11.1 million total viewers; "NCIS: Los Angeles" the following hour receiving a 2.0/5 in the demo and 10.2 million total viewers; and "The Mentalist" at 10 garnering a 1.6/4 in the demo and 8 million total viewers.
