Ratings: ‘The Voice’ Hits Second-Lowest Rated Finale Ever (Updated)

Still, NBC tops in key demo, CBS wins viewer battle

NBC’s “The Voice” hit its second-lowest rated finale ever on Tuesday, but the season-ender was still strong enough to hand the network a key demo win by a solid margin.

NBC was first in ratings with a 3.3 rating/10 share in the advertiser-coveted 18-49 demographic and second in total viewers with an average of 11.5 million, according to preliminary numbers.

“The Biggest Loser” at 8 p.m. earned a 2.0/6 and 7 million viewers. “The Voice” finale at 9 earned a 3.9 rating — down 20 percent from last year’s fall finale, but still strong enough to be the highest-rated show of the night. It had 13.8 million viewers. This cycle, the show’s fifth, ended with the trophy in the hands of Tessanne Chin.

CBS was second in ratings with a 2.4/7 and first in total viewers with 15.6 million. At 8, “NCIS” earned a 2.8/9 and 19.4 million viewers — making it the night’s most-watched program. “NCIS: Los Angeles” at 9 received a 2.4/7 and 15.3 million viewers. “Person of Interest” at 10 got a 1.9/6 — tying a series low — and 12.1 million viewers.

Univision was third in ratings with a 1.1/3 and in total viewers with 2.9 million viewers.

ABC and Fox tied for fourth in ratings, each with a 0.8/2. ABC was fourth in viewers with 2.8 million. Fox was fifth with 1.8 million, airing entirely repeats.

For ABC, following reruns, the season finale of “What Would You Do?” earned a 0.7/2 — a 22 percent dip from last week and a 56 percent drop from last year’s fall finale — and 2.5 million viewers.

Telemundo was sixth in ratings with a 0.6/2 and in total viewers with 1.4 million.

The CW was seventh in ratings with a 0.3/1 and in total viewers with 937,000. The network aired entirely repeats.

(For the record: An earlier version of this story erroneously said this was the lowest-rated “Voice” finale. In fact, it was the second-lowest rated, and the lower-rated of the show’s two fall finales.)
